Long Time No Post
I have been a big fat slacker at this blogging thing and have not posted for a very long time. So a brief summary of what we have been up to for the last 4 months. Bart and I went to the Panguitch Balloon Rally in June on the Harley and had a blast, In July we had the regular old July activities and then the end of July first part of August we went on a very needed family vacation to Lagoon, Yellowstone, and Mt. Rushmore, of course there were lots of other stops also. In August we also had our family reunion which was a blast but also COLD. After that school started and it seems that is all we have been doing since. Melanie started 3rd grade this year and Carter started Kindergarten. They were both very excited and really like their teachers.
As many of you know we were also made aware of a new addition to our family in August although no one else new until just a few weeks ago. After all of the heart break we have had over the last 3 years we decided not to let anyone else know until further along. Since the announcement the only question that we have had it seems is "What is it" until today that response was "Don't Know" or "A Baby". Well today I had my "routine" ultrasound and to my suprise Bart decided that we should find out what the baby was. So here it is...........A GIRL. That's right we are the girl makers in the Mortensen family but that is ok we will take whatever we can get. The baby measures good and everything looked great other than she didn't cooperate so we will have to go back in a couple of weeks so that they can get a good look at her heart.
Well I think that this is all of our excitement so I will add a bunch of pictures of our fun hopefully you won't get to bored.

Melanie's Baptism
On Saturday we had Melanie's Baptism. The week was crazy preparing. First our toilet flooded and we had to pull up carpet. I then decided while the carpet was pulled up that we should paint. So on top of working everyday, T-Ball, and Bart being gone to Guard and work, I had to pick up paint, prep and paint, and pick up flooring. Well I got as done as I was going to and then on Friday Bart laid the flooring which looks so much nicer and cleaner than the carpet. So Friday night I stayed up making desserts and salads for Sat. We got up Saturday and it was nice out and we were all very excited for the day. We arrived at the church and discovered that there were four kids being baptized. They had a nice program arranged to start off and I have to admit that I got choked up everytime that we started singing. Our ward was the second group to do baptisms and Melanie got to be first. It was so fun to see her and how excited she was. After the confirmation the primary presidency had a little something for the children and talked about them a little. Sister Christensen told about the wonderful person Melanie is and how she just takes to a little girl in our ward that has some special needs without even being asked and how amazing they think that she is. It was so touching to hear.Even though I have seen it with my own eyes it is so great to hear about it from other people that notice. Melanie is such a sweet spirit. She is always taking care of everyone and is always concerned about how people feel. She is such a good example in our home to her brother and her parents and we thank her dearly for always keeping us in line. Melanie is such an inspiration and she touches the hearts of all those around her. I want Melanie to know that we are very, very proud of her and the decision that she made to be baptized. I know that Heavenly Father is also very proud of her and loves her.

Happy Birthday Melanie!
Yesterday we celebrated Melanie's 8Th birthday. That's right folks I have an eight year old can you believe it? Well I can't. Anyway, we decided to let Melanie have a little party with some friends. Everyone that she invited came to celebrate and we had a good time (except for when the drama kicked in).
She got some really fun gifts and all in all I think that she had a really good day. It is hard for me to believe that it has been eight years since we were setting in the hospital with her but it has and they have been eight wonderful years. Melanie is a little ray of sunshine. She really does have a sweet heart and likes to please everyone. She loves to listen to music and sing and play with her younger brother. This birthday was an extra exciting one at our house because now Melanie can be baptized. She is such a good example to all of us and we can't wait for her big day. It is also going to be a big day for Bart because he gets to perform his first baptism. I am so excited for both of them. We are so proud of Melanie and her accomplishments and are just so glad that we get to be her parents. Happy Birthday Melanie!! We love you!!!

Laughlin River Run 2009
We are still alive!! Last week we went on our Harley trip to the Laughlin River Run and it was a blast. The day we left I was a little nervous but once on the bike it wasn't to bad. I dropped the kids off in Delta with their Grandma Waddingham and then everyone else showed up on the bikes and we were off. We took the scenic route to St. George and it was a lot of fun. We stayed the first night at Brian's dad's house and they were great hosts and fed us very well. The next day we were off to Nevada. Once again taking the scenic route we rode to Mesquite and ate breakfast and then went on. We rode through the Valley of Fire which was beautiful.
The plan was to ride around Lake Mead but there was road construction that we didn't want to go through so we hit the freeway at the reservation. This is when things got a little nerve racking for me. The wind was so strong and at one time there was a diesel that passed us and we thought that we were going down. Bart says the we felt "weightless". Then, the Lake Mead exit that I was anxiously waiting for was closed so we had to go through Vegas. At one point I gave Bart the thumbs down, I had had enough of the wind and decided I was done. We finally arrived outside of Boulder City and boy was I ready to get off that bike. We stayed in Boulder City that night and went up and walked down their main street and it was a neat little place. They had a bunch of little sports bars and cafes next door to each other and tables outside with people just hanging out eating and enjoying a drink and each other. It was kind of fun and something different. The guys of course had to shine up their bikes before we did anymore riding (something that they did a lot of) so the girls just hung out and watched them "clean". Kind of a backwards I know.
Friday it's off to Laughlin first thing. Once we came down the hill and could see town it was amazing. We pulled into town and got off the bikes and it was a constant roar. It wasn't a sound that got annoying either it was just awesome. We walked through some of the vendors, ate a late lunch at the Colorado Bell, walked a little bit of the river walk and went through the antique car show in the top of one of the motels.
We stayed in Needles,Ca Friday night at enjoyed the hot tub and swimming pool at our hotel and also had some good laughs as we sat at Taco Bell for a couple of hours and ate. Saturday we headed for a little town called Oatman in Arizona. This was a cool little town and when we got there it was already packed with bikers. The traffic didn't stop the entire time we were there. Oatman is just a little town on Route 66 that's main street is just gift shops. We managed to find us some chaps while there which we were grateful for on our trip home.
From Oatman we went to Kingman,Az and ate lunch and then over to Hoover Dam. On our way to Hoover Dam we stopped at a gas station in the middle of nowhere to take a break and use the restroom. Well, you couldn't just walk in and use the restroom you had to make a purchase and it had to be a purchase per person. Ok, I thought I will just buy a snickers or something cheap. Yeah right, a snickers was $1.85!!! So our bathroom trip cost us about $4.00. We bought a water and a pack of gum and Bart said "We had to make a purchase to pee and we bought more pee, that makes sense."
We got to Hoover Dam and it was beautiful. I had never been there before and wish that we would have spent more time but we will go back with the kids.
We stayed the night in Boulder City Again and then headed for home first thing Sunday morning. The ride home was not the scenic route we took the freeway the whole way because we had a long way and wanted to get home before the weather got to bad. In Cedar city we stopped to put on our rain gear and I am sure that was a sight if anyone was watching. It was quite hilarious to all of us. It rained a little bit around Fillmore and then in Holden I met Bart's mom and the kids and Dawna and I went in the Tahoe from there. It is a good thing also because by Scipio it was raining hard and freezing. Bart and Brian were troopers and weathered out the rain,snow,sleet and hail from Scipio to Salina and then made it home. Bart's rain gear however did not do as well. By the time he hit Centerfield his whole one leg was shreds and his jacket not far behind. Thanks goodness for them chaps to keep him dry.
The trip was great. We had a lot of fun and can't wait until the next one. Thanks Brian, Dawna, Bill, Sharon, Mike and Angie for the good time and great laughs.

Springtime Fun!!!!
Spring has finally sprung! At least that is what we think every other day when it is nice and warm outside. Along with it has come a lot of other events. Melanie and Carter have started soccer again and it is so much fun to go and watch them chase the ball up and down the field. This year has been a little interesting as every time that there is a game it seems to be bad weather. I think that we have played 1/2 of the games that have been scheduled so far. Today we watched Melanie's second game and froze as we stood in the wind and rain but it was still fun. Tomorrow we will see what Carter's game brings.
Easter weekend proved to be a fun one for us. We thought about camping but decided that we didn't want to freeze so we just visited. We had plenty of other things that kept us busy though. On Friday we just hung out and then that night we decided to rent Madagascar 2 and camp out in the living room. The kids were so excited!! We made us a big bed on the living room floor and ate rootbeer floats and watched the movie. When it came time to sleep I had to move to the couch because my hips couldn't take the floor anymore. Everyone seemed to sleep real well except for me and the next day I could hardly move but hey, the kids thought it was great and that made it all worth it.
Saturday turned out to be a busy day for us. We got up and went to the Easter Egg hunt down at the park. The city did such a nice hunt for the kids, I couldn't beleive how much stuff they had out. The kids got their fair share of treats and had a good time. Carter was however very selective about what he picked up.
Afterwards, we went home and made breakfast and then we finally colored easter eggs. The kids had been asking since Friday morning and finally let them do it. I am such a party pooper. It was fun coloring eggs though they really had a good time and get so excited to see their finished eggs.
On Saturday we also went up and celebrated Haylee's Birthday with her. She is such a cute little stink and it was fun to watch her open her presents and get to share in the excitement with her. After her party we drove out to our friends camp west of Ephraim to visit. It was nice to see old friends that we haven't seen in a while and to just be in the mountains again. Carter and Melanie found their friends and we didn't hear much from them again until it was time to head home. They were however spotted climbing to the top of the rocks at the top of the mountain at the camp. Carter just doesn't realize that maybe his mom thinks that he is just a little to small to be doing some of the things that he does. As I spotted the girls climbing the hill I realize that they are pushing Carter helping him to the top. I swear nothing will stop the kid. He thinks that he can do anything that anyone else can.
Sunday was a beautiful day. The kids woke up to DS fun in their Easter Baskets and eggs hidden all over the yard. Carter didn't care to much about the eggs outside because he was cold and just couldn't put down his new KungFu Panda game but, it did seem like he ended up with the most candy in the end. Funny how that happens. He will be the first one to eat it all too.
Later on we rode out to Fayette Springs and had a little picnic and get together with my parents and some other friends. It was fun and the kids made some new friends. Afterwards we came home and went up to Stuart and Tracy's house and had a wonderful ham dinner. It was a nice Easter that we were able to spend together and just enjoy each other's company.
Now we have that all out of the way it is time to get ready for our Harley trip to Laughlin. It will be so fun to get away for a few days just Bart and I but we will surely miss our kids while we are gone. Happy Birthday Carter!!
Well my little Carter is growing up so fast. He just celebrated his 5th birthday yesterday and I just can't believe he is that old already it seems like yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital. We actually started celebrating his birthday on Saturday so that he could have fun with his dad who was going to be gone all week. I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said go eat pizza at Fat Jack's in Ephraim (Roy's). So we decided that we would do that and then go see the movie Race to Witch Mountain. We had so much fun and the kids loved the movie. I took his birthday off because I knew that he would love to spend the day together. We just hung out at home and I decided to build him the cake that he wanted which after lots of mind changing ended up being the moon.
After his choice of dinner (mac-n-cheese) Grandma and Grandpa Mortensen, Grandma and Grandpa Christiansen, Cash, Ciera, Brittney, and Ashley all came to help him celebrate and have cake and ice cream. Once he blew out the candles on his cake it was on to the presents of course. He got many fun things and was very excited about all of them. Thank you all for the wondergul gifts.
I just want Carter to know we are so glad that he is a part of our lives. He keeps us on our toes and always gives us something to smile about. He is the most loving child I know and I don't know what I would do without all of his hugs and kisses. Carter we love you!!!!

Family
This morning I was reminded (made aware) that Carter had to give the talk in Sharing Time. We found him a talk and Bart practiced with him while getting ready for church. I didn't get to be there for his talk as I was in my class however, I wished that I had left and been there because I had a couple of people tell me how good he did. I am sure glad that Bart was able to help him and be there. I just can't believe how old my kids are getting and the things that they are accomplishing. Time flies by so quickly and when working it seems as though it goes by even faster. And speaking of things that the kids are doing, Melanie has started selling Girl Scout cookies and she is having so much fun with it. It is so fun to see her selling and even more fun to see how excited she gets when she makes a sale. Her goal is to sell 1,000 boxes but her mom isn't quite as confident as her and is hoping for 250 boxes. It would be wonderful to see her reach the goal of 1,000 boxes but the delivering may not be as fun.
Tonight we had Stuart, Tracy, and Brittany over for dinner. I made Chicken Dumpling soup as per Stuart's request and it tasted so good and fit perfect since it decided to be freezing and snowy out. Tracy brought over a delicious cake for dessert that we all enjoyed also. It was nice having them here and just visiting. We are so lucky to be able to be back close to our family and be able to spend time with them so often. Thanks guys for the nice evening!!!!

It Has Happened!!!
Well the day has come for our "Tiny" to become a mother.That's right folks she had puppies yesterday. We have been keeping her in the basement because we knew that the day was coming and didn't want the little things to freeze to death. So, last night we got home and I told Melanie to go let Tiny out so that she could go outside and do her thing. Well, she comes running upstairs " I think Tiny had her puppies!" I told her that it was just kids outside making noise but she insisted that I come downstairs and hear the noise. So, I go downstairs and to my surprise there are 4 tiny little puppies making all sorts of noise. Well Bart kept on checking on Tiny as the night went on and well the puppies just kept on coming. So, this morning when we woke to our surprise we now had 10 puppies. Yes, 10 puppies. As you can imagine Tiny is exhausted and doesn't know what to think about the whole thing.
The kids and Bart are very excited about the puppies (I may not be quite as excited as them) and the kids think that there is a need for us to keep some but mom on the other hand disagrees. Hopefully when the time comes that they can leave their mother we will have no problem finding them homes. So, if you know of anyone that would like a puppy they are in luck. There are 6 black and 4 golden.

Finally Did It!
Well, I have finally done it. After looking at everyone's cute blogs I told Bart that I was going to start one. I think that it is a wonderful way to let the people we know and love what is going on in our lives, and it just looks fun. I told Bart this back at the beginning of the year and now that the month is half over I am finally getting something going. And speaking of things that I wanted to accomplish or do better this year, I think that I am getting about a "C" so hopefully I can get on with those goals also.
